A current flow can be observed in the current vs. time (i-t) measurements albeit the applied bias is 0V vs. Ag/AgCl, in a conventional three electrodes system (consisting of the working electrode, the counter electrode (Pt wire) and the reference electrode (Ag/AgCl)). Depending on the working electrode material and electrolyte (aqueous or ethanolic), the current can be either positive or negative. Moreover, if some material gives a negative current @ 0V in aq.electrolyte, the same material gives a positive current in the ethanolic electrolyte. Is this occurring just because of the cell e.m.f? Can anyone please explain the reason explicitly?
