Why are degree's more commercial to acquire from a university until the tutor in the university is being used the candidate to study.
Atleast big one university in each country or the world should be self independent acquire atleast PhD from anywhere.
As in other companies and partnerships, the labor market has created competition for investment in science. There are cities that have built a number of universities and attracted students from all over the world, along with the necessary publicity.
I agree With Prof Ian Kennedy but one can have capability to self study and write only tests and exams so that prove his capabilities after a certain age or degree based on his knowledge and so people may be located in remote areas of the world without much money at all but is motivated to learn and is ready work hard how do such people get benefit
If what you suggest is obtained, then, there is no need for supervisors and tutoring. The implication is that the student will be the teacher and the learner at the same time.
Many large famous universities do give undergraduate credit for passing standard exams under controlled conditions. In USA it saves much money and can lead to early graduation with flexible schedule. Example is Thomas Edison University in Trenton New Jersey. A bachelors degree can be earned from examinations depending on the major. There may be an essay section.
In masters programs some universities give limited credit for exams in the earlier part of the syllabus, but more likely advanced standing will be awarded with requirement to substitute an upper level course. Online masters degree programs are available from famous large universities. It goes with proof of identity.
In colonial times some major European universities gave doctorial credits for examinations to persons in the distant colonies who could travel for the exams, especially to London UK. This is largely replaced now by online components of doctorial programs and fulfill only a part of the requirements.
The cost is more than the exam fee in all cases, but substantially less than class room studies. Someone has to grade the exam, proctor the exam, administer the syllabus, and keep the records.
I passed some of these equivalency exams in mid career at approved testing centers and found them useful for continuing education at reduced cost and with flexible schedule. They would not be satisfactory for me as the only component of higher education. The exams went parallel to career experiences with highly qualified professionals in universities, factories, and laboratories.
Some closer contact with leaders in the major field is essential to get the quality education. Some of my younger teachers are still in contact 50 years later, but most of the great ones are gone and remembered by their students. I would feel cheated if I had to give them up and replace them with standardized examinations.
Requirements are becoming more strict and costly, the opposite of what is suggested in the question. The individual research without collaborators is not highly requarded
