Every year, new PhD students are accepted but lots of them will never finish: some decide to quit in the beginning of their studies while some manage to take all the required courses but they will never finish their theses. My university evaluates them every year and checks how they are progressing with their thesis; also, it supports students' conference trips and, if necessary, also helps them to find additional supervisors from abroad but still, many students quit: some lose motivation to finish their studies, some have personal or financial problems while some are not good enough at academic writing. What has your university done to reduce the number of quitters?
