Upon UV exposure PHA producing bacteria emit fluorescent light or it excited and then emit the light.I want to know that what properties make PHA granules UV sensitive. Please help me.
Based on the chemical structure of polyhydroxyalkanoates (lacking conjugated double bonds), I would be surprised if they were fluorescent. The bacteria are fluorescent due to the presence of various fluorescent biomolecules, including NAD(P)H and flavins. The PHA may scatter light due to their large particles size, making them appear to be fluorescent.
