Hi,

I have a solution with composition (Ca=2500ppm, Mg=730ppm SO4=4800ppm, Cl=7000ppm). I used ion chromatography to analyze cations concentration. I made standard solution. To prepare samples I diluted the main solution 100 times in 2 steps. I mean first I diluted 10 times and then I diluted the new solution 10 times again. But I put both of the solutions in ion chromatography instrument. The problem is when I dilute the solution 10 times the instrument says there is 73ppm Mg but when I dilute 100 times the instrument says there is 6.6ppm Mg (660ppm in stock solution).

Why?

the RSD was 5% and calibration curve was 99.8%. to dilute the solution I used weighing method for more accuracy.

Taher
