I tried to analyse my carbonate samples which was from carbonation of dissolved magnesium chloride in water. I added ammonium hydroxide to increase pH and then bubbled CO2 in solution. I expect to get magnesium carbonate or hydrated from magnesite but XRD results just show an Al peak which has probably come from the sample holder. I repeated the XRD at different times and every time got the same result. Does anyone know what the problem is? Does that mean the whole of my sample is amorphous and doesn't have a crystalline structure? Thank you!
