Many companies has microsoft office installed on their office PC with excel and it's addins such as PowerPivot as part of the installation. Excel is a powerful tool that is only used as a statistical tool or data analysis tool in isolated cases. Data is not synchronised across departments that share common resource - data and information. Data is seldom integrated and shared within related departments or divisions, which makes it difficult to update  rendering it useless and redundant.
