I was planing to use acid to get rid of the iron catalyst in the carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet, which was synthesized from Floating catalyst method, but after 1 hour of CNT sheet immersion in the 50% HCl solution, the sheet folded and shrank itself instantly, it took lots of efforts to unfold the sheet, therefore asking for suggestions for better way to do the acid treatment to CNT sheet, thanks

The acid-treatment process involves a number of parameters which are all critical to the success of the process. The type of acid used, treatment duration and temperature are all essential parameters which need to be considered. The acidic mixture of sulfuric and nitric acid has been used extensively. The use of nitric acid only is also common but would yield mild acidic treatment. Nitric acid attacks the already existing active sites on the walls of the CNTs whereas the mixture of sulfuric and nitric acid creates new active sites and thus promotes further functionalization and i think it would be better for you
