Hi, I am using an Agilent 1200 series and Chemstation software. When I try to set run-time more than 40 mins (for ex. 45 mins or more than that), run-time is getting over within 40 mins even after loading a method higher run-time.
When I load method for 45 mins, during run (blue color) it shows run time set for 45 mins but however it is getting over in 40 mins. I have also tried run-time for 5 mins at this time it is working fine only when I set for more than 40 mins I am facing this problem. Can someone please guide how to resolve this issue?
I have not used that specific equipment, but the configuration of your equipment has likely programmed a maximum time of 40 min for the run, it would be good that you check your method very well and extend the time. It is probably the configuration of the pump.
This is a basic software training issue. You should be able to easily correct the problem. There are several RUN "Stop times" which collectively make up one method. The time shown in THE PUMP screen (Pump module) is generally used as the default run time for the method, unless the client overrides it in other section (always set to, "same as pump" in the other screens), as you will see. If the method stops collecting data early, then you have not synchronized them in the same method (note, this is different than a method that stops due to an error). Start by looking at the Method's actual programmed STOP TIME. This should be the desired RUN (analysis) stop time. Next look at any programmed method stop times (e.g. gradient table, if used) and make sure you have programmed them to show the SAME STOP TIME (as the 'pump'). You also must check the stop times set for any specialized detectors too, as these may override the settings. Use the "Edit Entire Method" feature to step through ALL of the key screens, one-by-one, and confirm that any stop times entered all match. Finally, be sure to check if the method is being run as part of a Sequence. The Sequence table can be used to override a method's own settings, individually, if the user chooses to.
- Note: For a normally set-up HPLC method, ALL of the stop times will match, by default, the pump stop time and you will never have any issues, unless an error occurs, with runs terminating early. *It is often when someone fails to create new methods for new applications (the correct way to use the system), but instead just keeps over-writing the same method that these compounded errors start to occur and result in a method that is of poor quality and has mismatched events.
