Developing a method in APCI mode. The area of standard suddenly drops down to more than the half of its original value after few injections. It was noticed moisture in the gases supply. When pressure point near the filter tower is released into a beaker , the mist appears indicating some moisture in the gas line. Does this effecting my analysis.
It was observed that, When analysis is done in ESI mode for a different analyte, the area doesn't decrease significantly as like in APCI mode.
Is moisture effecting only in APCI mode...?
APCI ionizes the gas with the intent of transferring that ionization to the target molecules by collisions in the gas phase. This is clearly affected by the composition of the gas phase. The gas phase water can both donate and accept protons in the gas phase. If your sample isn't in an aqueous carrier, then yes water in the gas stream will affect things. If you sample is in an aqueous carrier, less so.
