I hypothesize that due to sinking of the Lamina Cribrosa, the capillaries and smaller vasculature are stretched and broken at the scleral edge, a fate similar to being met by the nerve fibers. After the severance and depletion of the smaller vasculature the surrounding disc area looks bald, a feature characteristic of glaucomatous disc. The characteristic progressive whitish pallor of the glaucomatous disc, devoid of inflammatory process, appears to be due to severance of vasculature and thus blanching of the disc. Thank you for feedback.
