Why are some people religious and others non-religious, some believe in God, His books and religion and what came by and with, and others are not believers?
According to Gallup study in 2010 religiosity level is high in most of the Asian countries. For example in Sri Lanka religiosity level is 99%.
Iddagoda & Opatha (2017) found that religiosity has three components. They are namely, piety, practice and participation.
Iddagoda & Opatha (2017) wrote:
“First, a person should have piety. The Pocket Oxford English Dictionary (2007) defines piety as a conventional belief accepted without thinking. A person should believe and have reverence for the founder of the religion and what he preaches without having a doubt. Then he/she should practice what the founder of the religion preached. For example, a Buddhist has to practice the Five Precepts daily and Eight Precepts on the full moon Poya day. Similarly, he/she should practice Sigalovada Sutta, also known as Gihi Vinaya or Code of Discipline for Laymen. He/she should participate in activities in observing the religion and worshipping the founder of the religion, religious leaders and the objects that have a religious significance. Furthermore, a particular person ought to participate in other social activities with one’s religious community.”
Gallup (2010) found that in some countries the religiosity level is low. But it is evident people in those countries also value the human values like “honesty” etc.

Believing is one of the free conducts of humans. Therefore, some people believe in God and others do not. The main role of religion is to give morals and norms of living to the human mind. Those who are not religious can get these, for example, by learning from the spirits and deeds of great persons who lived in the past.
To be religious or not, to believe in God or not, all is a matter of belief. This life requires peace to live happily that is a fundamental requirement. So just to give contentment to their thoughts and brains people follow different kind of activities.
The freedom-of-choice is a spiritual gift from our creator; however, it burns down to the practical concequence of deed over creed, i.e. to free ethical choice in real world action and not in official affiliation to a certain 'body of believers' by chance or choice.

People find their strength and energy by believing. Others see that it is a weakness to believe on the invisible and virtual, they think they have to rely on themselves to be satisfied. Nevertheless, the psychoanalysts show that their interior is not "in peace" and does not really reflect their well-being! ...
There are religious traditions in every culture that are deeply rooted. Not all religious traditions have a God. Faith in natural forces, in karma, in the forces of the cosmos, is also widespread. The "modern" monotheistic religions are relatively young. 3000 years before the modern era there existed no Jewish god and also no Jewish people, which only became a people through religion. At the time of Jesus Christ, there was no Islam. Christianity is best known when it originated: in the first century of today's era (after Christ).
The religions in China are much older. The need of people to believe in a higher power that influences their destiny and whose demands they have to submit to is understandable. Man is born as a helpless being and in adolescence becomes he the intelligent living being of the world. And yet forces of nature act on him, which can bring him quick and violent death. Man knows nothing about his future, despite intelligence. The idea that there are forces that determine one's own fate helps. Such thought grants relief. People who does not believe in any God are probably closer to reality, but has to lead a much more difficult life.
There may be various factors. Where they live and parental upbringing, I believe are the more important ones. Asides from that life events can also make a person more religious or less religious. Sometimes a calamity in life may result in a person losing faith in God, whereas for some others this may be an eye opener and they hold on to faith stronger than before. Traditional religions mostly have ostracised those who have different life styles. In such cases such individuals may not end up being religious. Also, some extremists have used the name of religion for their own agenda and committed atrocities everywhere. These folks must be denounced since they paint a bad picture of religion in general and their behaviours are not consistent with the teachings of religions.
Thank you very much Researchers for all your answers.
I am not asking about the religions invented by humans; but about the religion that came from God really. I also ask researchers and scientists as the most conscious, rational, and far-seeing class, as well as more accurately for things and the future even than their leaders in many countries.
Indeed, family, society and human personality are what determines whether or not they will be religious. The elders are usually more religious than teenagers, and scientists are also more educated than non-educated. The personality of the person and the perfection of his mind, plays a large role in being religious or not. The person who loves the nature created by God and loves animals, and works good in his life and reconciled was a believer in God or not, is a man of sound mind and closer to religion than others. The selfish person who sees religion as a waste of time, and good work is a waste of money and effort, is considered a person of little mind and indesirable.
The belief in the last day is the difference between the religious and others. Islam is the last religion of God and the Koran is not touched by a human hand, it determines the fate of the people after their death, and the believers who had a great presence in the work of the good will be judge of their actions, and they will enter paradises don't ever dream of it after their return. The degree of the belief in God and the Last Day is also the determinant of the degree of religiosity.
Thank you very much for your reply, and for all the researchers they contributed for this question.
I do not think of religion as academic studies only; but the belief is a great decision in the human life, and religious behavior makes it upright on the straight path. I do not see religion as an ancient heritage, and think of its benefits must be established only in contemporary human life; but religion represents the present and life of man and his future choice for the believers of the last day.
Some may see that Islam is the religion of terrorism and problems, of course because the islamists follow an ancient heritage called the Sunnah. Those who follow the Holy Quran and know that it is the download of the Lord of the Worlds, find him a very serious person in his life and respectful of the righteous in this world and the Hereafter.
Best regards

Religious people believe in God and that their is an after life in which they would be asked for what they have done in life on earth. Also they have found happiness and peace in their religion. However, non-religious people don't know or have not come across a true religion to believe in.
We find the piety where we cannot find the law, in the treatment of couples, in the treatment of divorcees, and in struggle and fight with conscience, dignity and piety, and in some financial transactions, and where people leave to their conscience in their jobs and in the preservation of the environment and the safety of their cities.. Piety is a living conscience, policeman in the heart of every person and his memory, reminds him that God is watching everyone and not only one person, and reminds him that all what he is doing will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection.
Likewise, all societies are viewing to the religious, as respectful, decent, and righteous people, and they are usually only good performers; others may or may not be such.
I am not a specialist in academic studies on religions, nor do I believe in the published myths about lucky numbers and others. But believe me Professor, if someone who is riding a flight and faces bad weather, will know only one God who is the creator of all us and the airplane, and he will not remember then that he must prove his existence first. All of us Professor are riding the planet Earth and all of us faces bad weather, and needing God everyday
I am Muslim and Islam does not encourage suicide or death, and suicide is a murder, but we know all of us that we will be dead one day, that day is a decision of God not to be of us. Believe me Professor Derek, the belief exists within every human being, and in the plane that I mentioned, people know only one God and one Savior especially that the weather is so bad. Believe me if God wants to save it, the conductors of the plane will do heroic work they never hope for, or the storm they face will suddenly and unexpectedly turn. I do not believe that there is no existence only of what I see; the unseen is what really leads this world and all of us. Sometimes someone thinks about a subject and finds no solutions, its solutions come in his brain and he thought that have reached those solutions, but God and his angels are the ones who inspire and lead the world. It is not a theory but a reality that we cannot prove.
As for life after death, I affirm that we are all envoys after death, we were alive before and then we are alive again, and probably again and again.. but we cannot prove it because it may be impossible for us to do so, and we can only prove it with faith and conviction. All of us live in this universe and earth, which we do not know how they created, whether from eternity or that it was a beginning point that the universe was not exist before."I do not know anything about what I cannot prove its existence", perhaps the proof of the unbelievers.
Jinn are created by God, not seen by the human eye; but you may see in other ways, perhaps by infrared glasses. God is the Creator of all of us, in the Koran: "The sights cannot aware of Him, and He is aware of the sights, and he is the gentle and expert"
It is not like non-believers. Sometimes some incidents or people one met in their life make them to shift their believe in other things may be like working hard or helping people or fighting for a cause and there are lots of examples. I believe these are also forms of worship indirectly or directly.
First of all it is needed to redefine the criteria on the basis of which we decide who is religious or not. Many people who are participating in religious activities, regularly visiting their religious centers etc. seems religious to most of us but are not always religious. In my opinion a true religious person is that who is truly dedicated to his work and also serving the society honestly, because in the real sense the work and the whole society is the manifestation of that Lord. In this way a person not involved in other religious practices may also be religious by heart.
I guess, its one's choice. We are hindus and we have full liberty to adapt what we want and unlike other religion which enforces everyone to adapt even if its not your interest!
Many people ask such question in Japan to me....and certainly we are lucky to be born independent!! We can explore, adapt and keep the power to change the world with a vision.
