In a book chapter authored by Kim Sneppen from the book titled " Physics in Molecular biology; Kim Sneppen and Giovanni Zocchi; Cambridge University Press (2005)", it has been mentioned that regulatory genetic networks are essential for genetics and thus for multicellular life but are not essential for life. Why so? These regulatory networks are essential for the emergence, sustenance and proliferation of multicellular life. Doesn't it make them essential for life, in particular, multicellular life?
