Why are gene expression analysis of clock genes done preferentially under free running condition of continuous light (LL) ?

Regarding clock genes expression in a. thaliana

This is a good question, I was thinking that it was better to provide LD cycles in general because of the light as a stimuli, now I am not sure. Hope someone with more knowledge can answer to you, and now to me.
