I guess global interest is decreased when a study is too country specific in scope and design. However it varies a lot depending on the field and specific issue at hand.

Michelangelo is absolutely on point there is a move towards understanding how things work in different settings (countries) as a move towards globalisation. That is why studies such as systematic reviews are weighted better than single original research as systematic reviews take into consideration evidence from various countries. Indeed, it depends on the field.

Dear Kalu, everything said in the already given answers is true and I agree with them. However, the effects of globalization cannot jeopardize the regional research. They are also valuable. For example why it is more important to what happens to the English language due to the globalization and it is not important how this process affects the so called small languages. All languages are equal and all topics matter. If the journals claims that they are international in scope they should accept well written papers even if they deal with a regional problems. I do not agree with this journal's policy.

This would also understand the behavioral outcome for a particular problem or proposed work.

I very much agree with you that country specific studies could be difficult to publish in leading journals of international readership. The reason is that what you may think to be in-depth research in your country may not be of interest to people from another country, especially when the case does not apply to them. Rose Uchem also asked sometime ago why general interest questions have much response than specialized ones?. In your case, the publishers could advice to have such published in local journals where the paper would be of interest. Do you know that many such local papers hit headlines when the leading or celebrity authors stumbled on them and discovered that solutions to international problems have been solved in journal of local status.

My response is, carry out thorough research and keep publishing your results any way. That local could be of world renown someday once there is substance in it.

i Agree with prof Umeji on the concept of publish in local Journals. many African scholars and institutions fail to appreciate the invaluable worth of local journals. Take for Examples universities that prioritise Thompson Reuters listed Journals, with no mention of Journals published in their university.

what does that tell you? the answer is simple, they are not sure of the knowledge they are professing, the knowledge of which they claim to have authority, hence they seek for foreign validation.

please, understand that global scope research and publications on international journals has its place, all am saying is; equal and commensurate value and energy should be placed as well on Locally groomed knowledge.

sometimes i wonder which international journal can command the wealth of knowledge of journals like OKIKE and UCHE (journal of philosophy) as it matters to Igbo and other African Culture.

Dear, thank you for sharing this important question. In my opinion and already shared by other colleagues, there are several factors that can influence this, from the quality and scope of the study. In my country, due to the cutbacks in public universities (which have the best periods), many articles take up to two years to confirm or refuse acceptance. This has motivated many researchers to seek international alternatives for their publications. I hope I contributed. Greetings!

If scope of the work is limited then such work is often rejected.However the point raised by Kalu is valid in sense that sometimes similar studies from developed countries are readily accepted but from poor or developing prone to rejection.

Every journals are having their own publishing policy. It is related with worldwide business also in many cases.

It may be the case that those journals give more importance on international readers!

But there are many good journals which regularly publish articles on regional studies.

This depends on the strength of your study or research.

Most probably the future perspectives of research conducted and it's implications and consequently readerships do play important role.

This conclusion may show that the economic side is prevailing to the detriment of the scientific side. Scientific information is more valued when it is broader and can sell more. Unfortunately, many colleagues still prefer the conventional "impact factor" and less appreciation to what really can be useful to someone in this world. Every research has its value and this is what really should matter, not the power convention ratified by most researchers. We should reflect. An interesting suggestion that could be applied. Every educational institution should strengthen its publications by creating a strong editorial system. Many more renowned universities already do this. This helps to strengthen science. The ideal is that they are open system and funded by the institution or government of the country involved.

Yes it is difficult most of the time. Journals only accept papers those are related to hot issue or novelty research especially globally impacted.
