I've seen plenty of literature about tree VOC sampling but all I see is related to leaves or woody tissues like phloem or xylem. I wonder if anybody sample volatiles coming from the external part of the bark either because they are highly correlated with the phloem volatiles, either because it's extremely difficult or just because it doesn't make sense. Any guesses?
