I'm working on mounting 40um coronal brain slices (rat) from free-floating sections.
I first mounted a reference series which was then stained with tol blue. Now working on a free-floating WFA stain protocol. After working a while I find the sections start sticking to the brush and sometimes become damaged as a result (Round brush with white nylon bristles provided to me in the lab).
Can anyone recommend a particular type/brand/size/material?

I did not do well with nylon bristles for free-floating rat brain sections.
Natural bristle, narrow tip brushes worked well for me, sometimes it is helpful to have a second brush to (gently!) uncurl/smooth the section. It is worth the investment to pick up a few choices at a craft or art store so you can see which works best for you.
Absolutely agree with Nancy. Natural bristles normally works perfectly as they are not as rigid as nylon or artificial ones. Using another bristle to help uncurling the section is also really helpful (depending on the brain areas you are working it is normal to get some totally curled). I have also used some plain bristles in sections that are really long (like cerebellum) and easy to break in different parts.
