For the enzymatic activity assay, I have to use 4-Hydroxybenzoic acid. I have kept it in the refrigerator. In the first experiment, I saw one peak but, after 3 weeks I was 2 peaks during UV spect.
In summary, observing a double peak during UV spectroscopy after long storage of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid can be attributed to factors such as impurities or degradation products, crystal form or polymorphism, aggregation or concentration effects, and solvent interactions. These factors can alter the electronic structure of the compound, resulting in the appearance of multiple peaks in the UV spectrum. To understand the exact cause, it is recommended to compare the UV spectra of fresh and long-stored samples and consider complementary characterization techniques.
