Dear Research Community,

I am analyzing my XRD data using the Williamson-Hall (W-H) method to estimate crystallite size and lattice strain. However, I am getting a negative slope in my W-H plot, which is unexpected.

I would like to understand:

  • What could be the possible reasons for a negative slope in the W-H plot?
  • Is there any direct correlation between the sign of the slope (positive or negative) and crystallite size variations?
  • Could this be related to compressive or tensile strain effects in the material?
  • Are there any corrections or alternative approaches I should consider?
  • Any insights, references, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to your valuable suggestions.
