I am an independent researcher working on threatened birds in far north Queensland. One of my projects involves radio-tracking Grey-headed Robins and during handling for banding and transmitter attachment these birds often shed a few covert feathers. I have collected these feathers wondering whether I might be able to have them analysed for corticosterone as an indicator of stress. If it’s feasible, there’s an opportunity to monitor stress through time which could be a valuable complement to my field studies of this species which is a Wet Tropics endemic vulnerable to climate change. I'd like to hear of any laboratory that offers this service in Australia.
