I am compiling global database on fault zone permeability, in rocks, any depth. Looking for hard to find data: tunnels (engineering reports), anything not published in journal papers or not in major repository studies. I have >1000 publications but some regions are under represented, especially anything not in English.

a very interesting topic. Maybe I can support your work with a german perspective. I am situated in Germany, Northrhine-Westfalia, being surrounded by open pit mines and some coal mines, some with major fault zones in between. Especially for open pit mining regional groundwater pumping is ongoing. Therefore the hydraulic properties of the faults are often investigated and discussed in PhDs. To monitor the effect of groundwater pumping the State Autorities are operating regional groundwater models, sometimes with publically available documentation.
How do you want to map this sometimes very variable 3d conditions?

Mining data is very good to use and hard to find. I met a post-doc from ETH who is compiling a database on non-faulted rock permeability from mines, at the AGU 2014. It seems to be a popular research subject. I also did mining hydrogeology before these studies, but mostly in northern Canada, Papua New Guinea, and few other places, but most of that data is impossible to publish due to client confidentiality, although I am working on that also. It seems that things in Europe are more open, which is good to hear.
I think it would be useful to compile where and what type of fault permeability data there is, and measured at what scale, qualitative or quantitative. Then tabulate various attributes for faults. You might be interested in detailed local models and conditions, while I am at first tabulating counts of how many faults are barriers/conduits in different rocks, per km2, etc., how measured, fault types, very general things. I posted a small presentation on my page here from AGU.
Thus, the detailed 3D geometry and flow systems, that is beyond my scope, but if results are known, e.g. a flow model is calibrated, then I could use some summary data. I could help with Feflow model or something as case study at some point perhaps, but have to think about it. I can definitely model mine sites, as this is something I did all the time before, just have to think how that fits in my present research, which is fairly broad and multi-scale. I am trying to see what data is out there, globally, regionally, and how this might help with more local/site studies, if at all.
Perhaps we could discuss over email the rest? I am interested in scaling of permeability due to faults, best modeling approaches, comparing different permeability data sets.
