Journal Indexing required lot of information to be collected before determining a list. It is not clear how UGC journal list is made. The formula is to be defined. Sometimes UGC included some journal later deleted from the list.
Yes Dr Saikia.....You are very much right in pointing out the question and addressing a crucial issue. Let me take the opportunity in joining with you and in expecting from all other sensible stakeholders towards voicing with us for a resonance.
1.The yardstick for judging the merit of journals should be clearly spelt out.
2. Those criteria should be published after a definite consensus in the form of due documented acceptance from majority.
3. Those should be monitored and evaluated critically and periodically.
4. A suitable award may be initiated for the best performing journal(s) for maintaining higher global standard (s).
We can, only then, reach the goal, achieve the destination and surely fulfil the dream.
I follow the interesting discussion thread resulted from this smart question. I do not know the indian reality concerning the question. It is a good opportunity for me to learn about this topic.
Standing Committee of UGC reiterates that removal/non-inclusion of a journal does not necessarily
indicate that it is of poor quality, but it may also be due to non-availability of information such as details of editorial board, indexing information, year of its commencement, frequency and regularity of its publication schedule, etc. It may be noted that a dedicated web site for journals is one of the primary criteria for inclusion of journals. The websites should provide full postal addresses, e-mail addresses of chief editor and editors, and at least some of these addresses ought to be verifiable Official addresses. Some of the established journals recommended by universities that did not have dedicated websites, or websites that have not been updated, might have been dropped from the approved list as of now. However, they may be considered for re-inclusion once they fulfil these
basic criteria and are re-recommended by universities.
