I am currently revising Artemisia sect. Artemisia in western Europe. In addition to native A. vulgaris and more or less widely naturalized A. verlotiorum from China, several additional species have been identified (A. argyi, A. princeps, A. selengensis and A. umbrosa). Their separation is not straightforward.

A supplementary species, probably also from Asia, remains unidentified. It is similar to A. vulgaris but flowers ca. 1,5 month later (like the other Asian species in western Europe), has longer rhizomes and more finely dissected middle cauline leaves. Phyllaries are persistently white hairy. With Fl. China it keys out as A. mongolica and it closely matches the type of this species (held in P).

Is someone familiar with this or related species? Photos and a herbarium scan are available here under. A picture of the type can be seen here: http://science.mnhn.fr/institution/mnhn/collection/p/item/p00711954.

Thank you and best wishes,

Filip
