I'm trying to extract the ditch network from a DEM with the Map gully depth tool in WhiteboxGAT. Does anyone know about parameterization methodologies or where can I find them? I found only two cases of application of this tool: Mahor et al. (2016) and Gustavsson and Selberg (2018)
I don't have a solution or tools for Whitebox per se, but I did build something a while back that runs in ArcGIS. If you have high resolution data, such as a LIDAR-derived bare earth DEM, you can calculate Height Above River - https://www.esri.com/news/arcuser/0110/mapping-with-lidar.html. Then on the HAR raster if you plot height vs. number of cells you will typically find an inflection point that corresponds with bankfull width of rivers. It may be necessary to chunk the river into pieces since bankfull width and depth seems to vary according to where you are on the river.
