Dear colleagues, keeping your names in my mind is very difficult for me, because so many members on RG. I think I can recognize you by your photo. But some friends always change their photos?
Marketing is applied to everything, everyday, and everywhere, a Personal influence also is no exception. That means how to improve Personal influence on RG.
Best not to keep changing pictures for identification purposes?
For reasons such as this, I use a photo of an object which shows my prime interest of research. But even so, few notice my main research interest. If you look at my ratings 'skills and expertise', the two terms for my specialism have the two lowest ratings!
But I do run into the problem of being addressed as 'Sir', as my name is not obviously female when encountered by friends in the East. I don't otherwise regard gender as an issue, so it doesn't matter to me - provided that it doesn't cause anyone in other cultures any difficulty.
Over time you will notice the ones who are here to contribute and because they have genuine interests as opposed to many others who are looking for entertainment or who want to be in charge of a discussion at all costs. Sometimes you will have new connections and they may have more value - based on shared interests (or observations on life) - than old ones that are just sitting there.
You use the photo representing your prime interest of research as your logo. It is very special, so it is good for me to recognize you and remember you.
From the picture, the Pottery bowl is heavy and thick, so it gives us an impression that you are a male. Before reading your post, I also think you are a Sir.
I bearing in mind someone is for the sake of searching his/ her good publication, good question and good answer for later cite and read. But if someone changes his/ her photos, I will not know who is who.
Oh dear, I hadn't associated a 'heavy and thick' bowl as being indicative of masculinity! Sorry, Chun Liu.
I had originally thought that 'Margaret' would be recognised worldwide as female, thanks to our former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher [the so-called Iron Lady, with whom I have few similarities other than the fore-name].
My previous 'avatar' was of Laocoon wrestling with serpents, but that was too... masculine!
I couldn't help thinking that I might be expelled from RG, if I used a logo related to my scientific specialty, since I am an anatomist with special interest on the human uterus and genital system...
I do not understand what you mean by adding a mentality. Serious people are easily recognizable - they reply to questions and they care. I have had the chance to meet people virtually - on social media - who wanted to help me but I must tell you it is very rare. Sadly, even on research social media you will find a lot of people wasting their time in meaningless conversations, trying to build a reputation, argue or just mock at people's questions. Sadly, you cannot moderate threads effectively. I have tried but it is useless - very often people even do not read the question properly.
I am a Chinese. Keeping in mind an English name is difficult for me. So at most time I just remember the photos. Now I read Margaret for ten times. Yes it remind me the former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher [the so-called Iron Lady,] who I have known well.
Picture is the easiest way for learning by heart. The first impression is from the pictures and score. A person’s picture is his logo is himself. I think most colleagues connect your good comments, good questions, good publications with you by you picture. So I hope you can think so after sharing the question.
What you need to know is whether the image (physical or mental) and content match, not just the presence of a photo.
I am impressed when people answer to the point and when they invest their time to contribute in a meaningful way. And just like in real life - it is very rare.
Dear all, I remember names very well. And faces, and I even recognize people if they change their hair color. I guess it is a talent. But dear Subhash is correct: constant interaction allows me to better recognize a personality.
About physical, a coat color, facial expression, definition of a Character, surroundings (indoor or outdoor) all are physical features can pass on first impression to others.
About mental, when one chooses his/her picture, he/ she must have at least moment thinking. In Subconscious, he /she wants express something. But not all people can catch it.
But in the discussion, the prominent purpose is how other colleagues can remember and recognized us.
As I said, I have a great memory for names, faces, personality traits, styles of writing, favorite issues and subject matters, nationality... That is why I have not so many colleagues yet in RG. I'd rather go slowly to really enjoy the diverse intelligence of each one. I really have fun here...
Yes, Chun Liu, I love interesting things, specially beautiful things.
But, no, Chun Li, I have nothing to hide or nothing to fear. I am a quite happy person, in fact.
This photo was taken the day before I took office as Minister of Culture in 2013. in this photo, taken by my best friend, famed guitar master Ana Maria Rosado, I am celebrating my walking into the sun in my beautiful Caribbean island. What surrounds me is the old train tunnel at Guajataca, which 600 years ago was a native Taíno indian village right on the coast.
I have no any meaning to offend you. If I let you feel unhappy, I am sorry.
Not long ago, I read a physiological article. It introduced that a photo in profile, if the figure is small and unclear, it means the one pays a litter attention on fame and gain. But he/she has some worry about the security of the environment. For me, I think it is right. Virtual net world is very complicated. I don’t want to make trouble.
It is not always interaction that counts, I mean in terms of long or many writings/posts. It is coming across the right one at the right time, it could be one invitation to a conference, a job, a link or someone who wants to encourage you or give you advice, connect you with the right people. There are people who do not write frequently (e.g. because they do not want to or they are busy, etc) but they could be more serious than others who appear to be more active. It is really subjective and relative. I have friends from abroad I have not seen for a long time but I know they will help me if they can (and they are not on social media); while there are many other people who appear in my daily feed and I am not so sure they would be willing.
Thank very much for your good advice. Because disparate tradition, culture and language, so we have disparate view on a same matter. For me, I am old, but I still have a great ambition, I want to have a personal museum.
It is my fault, to gage a particular person.
Let us return on right path.
Do you think the photo in your profile on RG is important? Is there any difference between a logo and a picture?
Very hope you can give your opinion, dear colleagues.
