Which theory is used to calculate shear stress in Ansys workbench?
because I like to determine shear stress for a brittle material through Ansys.
It's two separate issues. FEA is a matrix reduction and is using vector formulations. The outputs such as stress and strain are results from the matrix reduction. For a brittle material, you need to ensure you have the correct material model and use Tresca or other appropriate failure theories (ie, not "Von Mises"). When applying FEA, it's more of a question of using the right element types, material types, and boundary conditions than executing specific calculations.
If you want to calculate the gross effects by hand, and you should, then break out your mechanics of solids books and do the basic shear stress calculations to ensure you're in the right direction.
To analyze rodents of fragile materials, it is good to use the Tresca method. A good test is well done, which means that the result is similar and occurred when simulating the model
Tresca criterion (ie. max shear stress) is for ductile materials. Brittle materials need Galileo-Rankine criterion (ie. max principal stress)
