If condensation reaction happened between carboxylic acid and amine and amide is formed. The solvent for this reaction is toluene. After completion of reaction, how to collect product? It should be directly collected after vaporizing the solvent (toluene) or it should be precipitated in some other solvent. If yes then which solvent for the precipitation should be taken?
At first please describe your reaction in a scientific manner:
- Have you used an aliphatic or aromatic acid?
-Have you used an aliphatic or aromatic amine?
Have you used equimolar quantities?
when you write :.. after the completion of the reaction"... please tell us how you tested the completion. Have you tested with T.L.C and followed it according the TLC spots (Educt 1 and 2 then product).
If the reaction was not complete, the use of rotary evaporator leads to a solid mixture of educts and products.

Dear Jean,
I did not use TLC to confirm the completion of reaction. I have used stearic acid and ethylenediamine as reactant. For this reaction toluene was used as solvent. I followed protocol given somewhere.
