I would like to conduct a study to understand food-related attributions of obese individuals. As an experimental research, I will use a combi stroop test that presents a food-related picture for half a second and then a Stroop test. And also, there will be another group that includes relational pictures to measure if obese individuals, as it is claimed by many, have a relationship like attachment to food or not. I hypothesize that food-related pictures would have higher response time for obese individuals and that relational pictures (mother-child e.g.) would have higher response time for obese individuals compared to control group.
My question is which software would be most suitable for measuring response time in such a study?

Hi Ayşe,
From your research questions, I think you will need to use some kind of implicit measures. If you're going to test based on reaction time, you can check Milllisecond's Test Library section (https://www.millisecond.com/download/library/). You can also modify the appropriate tests from there.

Our lab at the University of Birmingham have just started using Gorilla.sc to build online experiments. So far, I have found Gorilla.sc really intuitive and easy to use and so I would definitely recommend it to other researchers. Importantly, I know that Stroop Task experiments have been housed on Gorilla.sc before (https://gorilla.sc/support/samples) and that Gorilla use 'high resolution timers for accurate reaction times and frame counting for accurate stimuli presentation times'. There's actually a pretty cool study comparing a lot of different software packages for this sort of thing:
Here's an excerpt from the abstract:
Among the lab-based experiments, Psychtoolbox, PsychoPy, Presentation and E-Prime provided the best timing, all with mean precision under 1 millisecond across the visual, audio and response measures. OpenSesame had slightly less precision across the board, but most notably in audio stimuli and Expyriment had rather poor precision... Online studies did not deliver the same level of precision as lab-based systems, with slightly more variability in all measurements. That said, PsychoPy and Gorilla, broadly the best performers, were achieving very close to millisecond precision on several browser/operating system combinations. For response times (measured using a high-performance button box), most of the packages achieved precision at least under 10 ms in all browsers, with PsychoPy achieving a precision under 3.5 ms in all.
tl;dr The most used software packages all seem to work well, and if anything can be said to come out "on top," it would probably be PsychoPy.
