The process macro considers the metric variable as a mediator for performing mediation analysis. The Mplus software provides a facility to perform mediation analysis using a non-metric variable. My question is, do software like R and PLS can do the mediation analysis with the help of non-metric variable taken as mediator variable?

Generally, having a binary or categorical mediator is not as problematic for most Causal Mediation estimation techniques. However, I would suggest testing for XM-Interactions since the mediation could differ strongly not only in level but also in slope/share mediated between the combinations of exposure and mediator.

@Kasili Mutambo Mplus do mediation analysis but it is not free thats why I ask for R, if it do with non metric variable.
