I am studying a new SNP present in bacterial antibiotic resistance gene. qPCR based genotyping for this SNP has not been carried out so far. I designed a Taqman chemistry based SNP genotyping assay for identifying this SNP.
But, recently a group has published their work on qPCR based genotyping of the same SNP. They have developed an assay for genotyping the wildtype and mutant alleles based on high-resolution melting data using unlabelled probes.
Should I still proceed with my study. Does Taqman chemistry based genotyping method have any advantage over HRM method? Will the assay which I have designed be still novel?
