Dear Vikram,

In HEC-HMS five methods are included to represent recession/ baseflow as contribution to streamflow. These methods vary from the linear reservoir method to the non-linear Boussinesq method. Depending on the method you are using one or more parameters can be calibrated. For instance for the exponential recession method that will be one parameter k: the exponential decay constant.

Thanks for advising. I am still in doubt over choosing the right method for recession. Is the recession parameter are going to effect the peak value and time to peak or else only effect the recession part.

The recession parameter will mainly influence the recession part of the flood wave, in particular the part where the streamflow is decreasing more gradually (after the inflection point) and not so much the peak value and time to peak.
