A simple idea to change a -fixed intensity- CW laser output intensity is to utilize a polarizer and thus changing polarization will lead to change in its output intensity. If someone needs to keep output polarization constant, he can use a second polarizer. But if the output beem profile is assumed as an important parameter and one needs not to be distorted the output profile, then which optical component has the capability of changing the output intensity without any changes in its polarization too? Some filters can be considered as solution; but exactly which filters can cover this purpose?
