you are learning when you are doing research. you also have to learn different methods, software's and read latest literature review.
In my view learning is the starting point of research. A good learnt teacher can be a good researcher. one important benefit of doing research for a teacher is that it shows on Your CV. but when a teacher is learning on her own (without degree/Certification) it might not help him/her with respect to improvement to his credentials (C.V)
You need to learn research first before you can conduct research. On this basis, learning would be more important as doing research depends on learning, whereas learning research does not depend on doing. That being said, quality is a very important factor. Whether learning or doing research, the quality must be high if it is going to impact practice in a meaningful way.
As the name says, the teacher has the task of teaching, that is to convey knowledge professionally. Since knowledge changes in many areas (but by no means in all areas), he will inform himself about it through suitable media. If teaching is his main task, he cannot do scientific research at the same time. That exceeds his time budget when he's fully employed. But he can occasionally carry out such research work, for example to achieve an academic degree alongside.
The two are very important because consistent research leads to effective learning. A successful teacher is the one that undertakes research in a continues manner. Research is the most important and effective form of learning.
Learning is important for teachers, also doing a research is important too. Doing a research makes us learn somethings. As we can learn by reading, listening or speaking, we can learn by doing a research so i think doing a research is a learning strategy. So, we cannot say learning is more important than doing a research or doing a research is more important because one of them contains the other.
In Between Learning and doing research, learning and simantaniusly doing in terms of hypothesis in small class, it more important in research. So, we can save time and conceptual clearaliarity will more relavent with research problem. I suggest that not are important simantaniusly.
The question itself is one sided in my opinion. A teacher should always be learning, this is in the classroom where the teacher can learn from the students knowledge in different areas as well as the insteant feedback tha the teacher recieves from teaching to reading and doing research outside of the classroom.
The research itself is a process of learning for the teacher, something a teacher should always be doing, researching new items in the filed to bring the most up to date infromation to the students. I am implying that the question is not about doing research but about doing research for publications. This is also important, not only is the teacher learning during this process he or she might be able to bring the latest information to the students through the research itself.
Full teaching loads can take away from wirting for publications but it should never take away the time for learning, . I have a goal to learn something new everyday, because I can apply it in the classroom to help relate and pass knowledge to the students.
In my opinion, a Teacher, is continuously engaged in Research as a pert of teaching process itself, through self learning and regularly updating his/her knowledge base.
I feel that as a teacher it is important to constantly be learning. Most of my learning occurs through reading articles based on research. While I do conduct research, it isn't necessarily important for teaching.
As a University professor, my opinion is that the two are inseparable. In the areas that truly interest me, research is the backbone of what I do. Writing about it is the culmination of the research project; however, teaching is the sweet part of this dichotomy, for teaching what I have learned is the culmination of everything that has gone before it. Granted, I have been teaching for only a short time; I started in February of 1961, mistakenly retired in 2000, went back to the classroom six month later, and do not plan to retire a second time. It has become so ingrained that now research only plays a minor role, each summer. I hope this answer helps you.
