Hi all,
I am using syringe pump from Adelab scientific for blood infusion in the microchip. I have to use syringe pump long time and regularly for my experiment. Recently I have faced a problem that my pump stopped automatically and showed 'SEAL' message on display. From the manual, I have come to know that it happens when pump needs extra force to push the syringe. I found in the maintenance section to use oil to grease the screw. They did not mention what oil should be used.
Note** I did not use oil previously to lubricate my pump. I am using the pump more than 6 months.
Have any one faced similar problem? Do any one have any suggestion what types of oil i can use or how to solve this problem. Our lab has slushing oil. May i use slushing oil as lubricant?

I have never used a syringe pump, especially looked it up. It is basicly a mechanical transmission system driven by a stepper-motor. There could be multiple issues why there is a need for extra force which gives you the "SEAL" error. One of them you mentioned is that there is too much friction from the screw-jack. So yes, try oil to lubricate it. To safe you from a lecture on tribology, just try the lubricant you have around you, it will be fine. Though first clean up the thread of the screw properly.
other issues that could be the cause:
- Possible not visible to the eye... the headers or screw-jack are damaged. Bended, so in misalignment. Or the tread is rusty, maybe damaged, maybe dirt stuck up.
- The liquid in the syringes are to viscous. The diameter of the syringes are too bigh and/or the exit-hole is too small, with feed from the motor that is too fast. Could also be too many syringes parallel which add up on the pumping force.

In addition to Detlef Jannes's response, Silicone Oil is the best lubricant for syringe pumps. Yes, you may also use slushing oil.
