As you perfectly know pertussis vaccine was "improved" by fraccionating the inactivated bateria cell, process that avoid some adverse reaccions that few vaccinated kids suffer, but this new acellular preparation does not protects equally than the old whole cell vaccine. I would prefer much more to immunize pregnant women with this last, to really give strong passive immunity to newborns. What do you think?
During pregnancy I would think its better to protect the baby with the old whole cell vaccine. Why?, as we know, diseases tend to mutate in such a rapid rate, so if there's a possibility that there's a range of proteins that also contribute to the disease in the whole cell, there should be the creation of a wide range of Antibodies against them giving the baby a more complete IgGs through the placenta. However, there's no such a thing like passive immunity for the newborn, because now, the only way the mother is capable of giving antibodies is by breast milk, breast milk only gives IgA, which only provides protection for the digestive tract to the newborn, not the bloodstream.

Well I disagree. How the whole cell pertussis vaccine being more immunogenic, be less effective? Immunogenicity refers to the ability of producing a humoral and or cell mediated response (in this case humoral-which is the production of antibodies). As my knowledge on vaccines is based in Immunology, Anatomy and Cell and Molecular Biology courses I differ with you because the whole cell is more immunogenic giving the capacity of the mother to produce more antibodies to a vast range of proteins that can contribute to the disease development. In addition, the anatomy of the placenta provides a suitable environment to the interchangeable movement of antibodies,since the arteries are broken, giving an open extracellular space to receive the molecules for the baby. In addition, my opinion; I would give them in both cases the whole cell vaccine since it is more effective in the production of a humoral response.
As a side note: in cell to cell mediated immune response the aP only activates the Th2 cells. (which are not the best fighting infections)
The wP activates Th1, Th2 and can even possibly activate Th17, wich is one of the best t helper cells fighting infections if encountered
