Aesthetic dentistry is featured in the NYUCD curriculum. Old school methods that compare colored synthetic materials to a person's actual teeth are still used. However, we do also use digital colorometers specialized on the readings of spectra obtained from teeth.

Science of colour starts in the undergraduate level itself when they study about material science. Subsequently it is reinforced in the final year of BDS when students study about aesthetic restorations and further learn the practical considerations in their clinical study of colour matching with natural teeth during final year and internship. However, during pstgraduation it is an important aspect of prosthodntic rehabilitation and is included in the curriculum.
