in case subdivision molar relations mostly the mandibular molars is at fault. while doing superimpositions which molars should be traced on the lateral ceph mesial or distal.
Superimposition tracings are not perfect. Due to a real asymmetry - OR the cephalostat that was not made symmetrical - or the head being slightly twisted EVEN THOUGH the ear rods were properly installed, you are going to have some asymmetry.
My advice would be to trace the "average" of the two and then keep a log on circumstances that might help you to understand: 1) it is asymmetrical; here is what I'm going to do about it; 2) improper orientation; etc.
It's more important that you find it and understand it -and what you are going to do about it - or that it can work in a given case, than for you to worry about which tooth shows up to be behind/or ahead of the other: DOES IT FUNCTION WELL?
Instead of taking the average i traced the mesial molar in both cases as the case was also finished in a subdivision molar relationship with canines in one.The reference for this was taken from book Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery: Diagnosis and Planning by Jorge Gregoret
