I've been reading and trying to have a turbulence spectrum from a LES simulation for several weeks. I have to admit I thought it would be easier. The problem is quite stimulating but, right now, I am a little lost.

Indeed, I saw there is several methods:

- run an FFT of the velocity signal on specifics points

- compute the spectrum of the entire domain at each time step

So, my first question is: how do I choose the best way to do it? Does it depends on the application (round jet in my case) or is there any other criteria?

Then, specifically to each method, there is some feature I can't figure out:

- Method 1: How do I choose the points where to compute the spectrum?

- Method 2: Is it better to use the method from Pope( Turbulent flows, 2000) which is very mathematical? Or the other method I know consisting in calculating the energy on each plane orthogonal to the main flow direction and do an FFT of this along this direction?

Do you use any other methods?
