By the way i would recommend you HPLC method that now a days HPLC has been used widely for chlorophyll a and b but you can find both benefits and drawbacks of this method. like all other methods has both benefits and drawbacks.
I certainly use acetone & petroleum ether in 1:9 ratio. It gives good results with TLC, while I totally agree J. Hansson for extracting pigments with HPLC which gives more accuracy and reliability towards variables (to extract & compare).
