To get an accurate result, you need to know which solvent is appropriate for each plant.

I used acetone and ethanol. Ethanol works better for the plant that I work on.

The method of extraction of chlorophyll depends upon the plant used. I hope the attached paper will help you to find which solvent is to use for the extraction of chlorophyll for your plant.

It depends upon the plant material and also depends upon your goal.

By the way i would recommend you HPLC method that now a days HPLC has been used widely for chlorophyll a and b but you can find both benefits and drawbacks of this method. like all other methods has both benefits and drawbacks.

I certainly use acetone & petroleum ether in 1:9 ratio. It gives good results with TLC, while I totally agree J. Hansson for extracting pigments with HPLC which gives more accuracy and reliability towards variables (to extract & compare).
