Quaternary ammonium salts are oxidized poorly. For example, 20% KMnO4 is used for oxidation (C2H5)3NHNO3 4 minutes, and for oxidation(C2H5)3NCH3NO3 for 250 hours. The compounds with one hydrogen atom at the nitrogen atom are oxidized well. You can do the same experiment.
