These days there is a trend uploading working papers in Researcgate, SSRN and MPRA. Some publishers don't mind it but some journals reject papers because when find that 70 to 80% of submitted papers are plagiarized with initial drafts or working papers submitted in research repositories. This problem becomes aggravated when your paper is submitted in MPRA which don't allow you to remove paper from their database. Therefore, what should be a way out if your paper is being rejected because its initial draft is in MPRA? Please respond to this question keeping in view the management science field especially.
Why would you ever post your prepublication information where it could be stolen? It's only for copyright purposes, but you already have copyright even to preprint versions. No respectable journal allows this, so don't ever do it, especially since it's permanent!
Pre-prints are becoming common in more and more academic disciplines. And this may be true in management science as well. Pre-prints are uploads of your manuscript to a pre-print server, with the goals of putting a time stamp on your research, potentially receiving a persistent identifier (like a DOI or permanent link) and garnering any early feedback from peers prior to publication. That said, there are some journals that do accept manuscripts already posted to a pre-print server and some that do not. A good method to find out whether a journal does accept a manuscript that's already in a pre-print server is to check this website called SHERPA/RoMEO: http://sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/index.php
That said, I'm not certain that MPRA is a pre-print server. But rather a repository for publication of papers and works that allow posting in copyright agreements. SSRN is a pre-print repo.
