I have immobilized a gold colloidal solution in a solid support using the same experimental conditions except the stirring time to achieve the final immobilization. I found that in 30 min of stirring time, the AuNPs have an avarage size of 10 nm, while in 10 min of stirring time, the AuNPs have an avarage size of 15 nm. How can I explain this?
Dear Annarita, if you have a non-uniform dispersion of nanoparticles, probably, larger ones (around 15 nm) are adsorbed more readily. What the ligand you have to stabilize your particles?
However I'm using the same starting colloidal solution. With shorter immobilization time (10 min) I obtain larger nanoparticeles (15 nm), while with longer immobilization time (30 min) I obtain smaller nanoparticles (10 nm). It should be exactly the contrary! So, why this happen?
Ok, the question is not that simple.
Do your particles have charge? What is their size distribution characteristics? What is their zeta potential value? And what is zeta potential value of your solid support? How roughened its surface is?
Probably, you have to use DLVO theory to explain the adsorption kinetics.
