I wish to do grain size analysis of sand. What experimental set up should I follow for it and how should I analyse the data. Please provide some references on this topic.
Quaternary Sediments: Petrographic Methods for the Study of Unlithified Rocks (2011) by Gale and Hoare, gives you all the info you need about sieving and laser diffraction analysis.
Laser diffraction provides detailed information on grain size up to 3 mm. Automated static image analysis (Malvern Morphologi G3-ID) or dynamic IA enables grain size and shape analysis.
@ Deepchand Geo Although imaging is essential, SEM does not provide a particle size distribution - the numbers of particles measured are way too small for statistical validity and minimum mass requirements are not met. At the sizes of sand then automated image analysis provides the statistical validity of numbers of particles. Take a look at the Morphologi 4, for example.
