Technology has come from the laboratory to society. There are two groups: 1. individuals with technical expertise (Ex; AI, including ML) and limited work experience and domain knowledge and 2. those with extensive work experience and domain knowledge but less technical proficiency. Can group 1 supersede group 2?
You can use heuristics if you are an expert in domain area and it will be almost not bad solution (frequently it is the best one). But if you are a tech expert without or with weak domain knowledge then probably you can't use your skills in correct way. And decision made with solution of such an expert would be bad or even dangerous. So, a domain area expert can do at least something, a tech expert can't do anything because he can't be confident in correctness of his actions.
In many cases, having a strong understanding of the domain can be critical for designing effective solutions. For example, in medical imaging, a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology is essential for developing accurate algorithms for identifying diseases.
However, without strong technical skills, it can be challenging to develop and implement effective AI/machine learning solutions.
It depends on the problem criteria. for example, the domain knowledge could be useful in medical pattern analysis and everywhere you working on human health system. By the way, you still needs mathematical and technical skills for AI / ML modeling.
