Managing deep Carious is Challenging when it comes for better prognosis. Although we have MTA, Bio-dentin. But when it comes for calcium Hydroxide, There is always a question for the clinician whether to choose light cure or conventional ( mixing and putting into the cavity and wait for proper setting.

Based on my clinical experience.. I prefer the conventional mix.. although I can not refer to any scientific paper.. just based on clinical expertise..
Some of my patient complained of uncomfortable feeling or a little pain several months later after using the light cure one..
I agree with Johan. But, besides the consideration of Ca(OH)2 it is most important to consider restictive caries excavation in order to protect the Pulp and to avoid postoperative complication.
I also agree with Johan . Even though conventional Ca(OH)2 is mix is messy I experience better results with it.

VPT with light cure materials is less effective than VPT with Calcium Hydroxide and Portland cements (like MTA or Biodentine). You can read this article for example:

I thnik role of Calcium Hydorxide has been reduced in any type of cavties as it is very brittle in nature. Morevoer,, idea of sealing the caries instead of removing it, further decreases the indication of Cahydroxide use.Sealing the cavity well using glass ionomers to inhibit the ingress of bacteria under the placed restoration ensures the progression of caries..
With a range of materials listed to date definitely more biofriendly materials can be listed over traditional calcium hydroxide.if we are to compare just between conventional mix and light cure calcium hydroxide....much more promising would be results of conventional Calcium hydroxide mix if proper isolation and sterilization protocol is taken care as per my clinical experience.I have also found marvellous results just packing the cavity with dry Kalsogen powder in cases of deep caries after infected caries excavation.

Hi Dr.Mirza.I place dry Kalsogen powder using amalgam carrier and compacting it well using calcium hydroxide plugger.Coronal dealer can further be ensured with some suitable restorative material.As i did state earlier sterilization and isolation protocol of the operating field is must to achieve desired results.

Traditional time-tested calcium hydroxide should be the gold standard for deep caries management.
Deep caries management is poorly understood in developing countries. Please see the international journal Dental Update June issue 2016..the paper titled " Overtreatment in Caries Management.."
My experience is with conventional manual mix and i consider it to be good
conventional mix is better (biologically), as light-cure calcium hydroxide contains resin which may release heat upon curing as well as the resin can cause pulp irritation
