Soil acidity which is mainly related to the presence of exchangeable aluminum (Al3+) in highly weathered acid soils is one of the key factors limiting agricultural production and productivity in tropical agricultural soils. Soil acidity limits plant growth not only because of the deficiencies of nutrients such as P, Mo, Ca, Mg, but also due to toxicities of Al, Mn and H ions.

There are different extraction methods which are used to determine the exchangeable acidity of soils, and lime requirement of soils. However, although some methods, such as acid saturation method are cost fast and cost effective their extraction efficiency is low compared to others. So, which extraction method is best in determining exchangeable acidity and lime requirement of acidic soils? The other question is that if there is sub-soil acidity, which amendment materials are effective in terms of cost and reduction of soil acidity?
