Dr. Hany Kasban , thank you very much for the reply, but all these measures are applicable to general images, however my query is for the evaluation metrics designed exclusively for underwater images. Secondly, in all these cases, we need original image or ground-truth image, however my query is for the metrics which do not require the original image. I come across one metric called Underwater Color Image Quality Evaluation (UCIQE) metric. Just wanted to know if any other such metric exists in literature.
Prof. Pat S. Chavez, Jr. , thank you very much for the response.
I am working on the enhancement of degraded underwater images. Most of the cases, the images available are affected by the underwater haze, decolorization and other conventional underwater optical challenges. Thus getting a good quality image is not possible in general. However, Most of the cases researchers capture images in a controlled environment (which is assumed to be the good quality image or ground truth) and then add underwater degradation effects by simulation to degrade it and apply their algorithm on the simulated degraded images to test the efficiency of their scheme. First four images are example of degraded images whereas, the fifth pic can be considered as a good quality image.
Thank you for posting the example images. I think the underwater images can
under go some enhancements and improvements, but I am not sure you can get
to the 'good quality image' example you posted. The good quality image is from
under the water in an ocean / coastal environment? If so, the water is much clearer than in the deeper water images. I had hope to get a 'before' and 'after' image showing what a good quality image would look like for you. By chance do you have a deep water pic like the first four that shows what those images might look like as good quality images?
Please find a degraded underwater image and it's corresponding enhanced image here. The enhancement is done using [10.6119/JMST.201808_26(4).0006] scheme.
Finally, I got three metrics specifically designed for underwater image quality assessment. One is the Underwater Color Image Quality Evaluation (UCIQE) [Article New Image Quality Evaluation Metric for Underwater Video
] metric, the second one is the Underwater Image Quality Measure/Metric (UIQM) [
