Efficient agriculture might be considered as a management philosophy to better use the resources to produce food, raw materials and ecosystem services. Efficiency allows to obtain more food per unit of productive factor, to have more income and to reduce pollution. What is your opinion? How can efficiency be improved in agriculture? Please suggest practicable and feasible solutions.
1) Increase Carbon content of soil by using organic manures, so that the system can take up N directly from atmosphere, which leads to less dependence on inorganic fertilizers.
2) By making use of drip irrigation system, water can be conserved, least amount of underground water is used – which prevents top soil from becoming hard instead of porous, which results in lesser temperatures for the vegetation grown. This in turn leads to faster growth of plants.
3) Use of vegetative biocides lowers dent on returns & is eco friendly, with out any adverse effects.
4) Any refuse left after harvesting be composted, so that soil is made to retain some of the minerals, depending less on out side manures.
5) Crop rotation & intercropping can lead to less demand of & proper utilization of minerals.
6) Multi tier rack system can be used for growing fodder crops, though labor intensive, is economical in long run.
Increase organic content of soil, timely application of irrigation, fertilizers with optimum doses, take special care in critical stages, proper intercultural operations in due time
Improved seed quality through better management during production and post-production (storage) period and seed priming may greatly increase the agricultural efficiency.
