For an example, how is the pandemic challenging indigenous people? Or alternatively, is indigenous knowledge important in this era of COVID pandemic? Also, how can indigenous people assist during this times, is it needed or must we do away with it?
Infrastructure affected Most schools and universities are not ready Poor access to platforms I conducted a study on these effects and the causes were the most important appropriate teaching methods As well as activities and tasks How students and teachers interact
The question is not clear, but, in terms of educating the indigenous communities (whether it is to do with the teaching of technology subjects or any other) one challenge would be as to how effective orientation on digital platforms could be given to them. Some use mobile phones, yes, but they need to grasp the specifics of the e-distance mode. Another issue to be addressed is to do with the inadequacy of network coverage in rural outposts where indigenous communities live.
Your question on indigenous knowledge vs global technologies has to be answered separately, and at length.
Agree with Chandana Dissanayake indigenous communities are affected by lack of access to the technology etc. but they must be catered to through outreach programmes and social welfare assistance. They remain relevant and valuable.
I agree with you colleagues, but the focus of my question is on the effects of COVID 19 in the teaching and learning of technology education subject (known in other countries as design and technology), as they seek to employ indigenous technologies. In other words, to rephrase my question I can add:' Which are the challenges that COVID-19 brought to senior phase teachers and learners of technology education subject from indigenous contexts? Thanks so much for your contributions, they assisted me greatly.
A lot of issues especially in developing countries where students as well as teachers have not access to modern technologies and they can not afford. But its encouraging every body is struggling
Thanks so much Ghulam Mujtaba Shah. Those modern technologies are a real challenge, including the fact that here where I am is a deep rural area and unavailability of electricity and transport have occupied high positions in the list. Indeed this fight is for all of us.
