I am currently planning to sample and screen streptomycetes from the soils of our university for antibacterial activity and would like to know which antibiotics would be an optimal point of comparison.
You could use anything that has antibacterial activity versus the strains you are using under the testing conditions, preferably a drug that is easily obtainable at low cost.
Streptomyces are Gram +, so you have to add an anti-gram- like nalidixic acid and since the soil is full of mushrooms it is necessary to add in the isolation media or in the sample antifungals like nystatin, amphotericin B or the actidione. Good luck
